Schedule for Boys & Girls Club

Look out for Mr. C.!

Seldovia welcomes a new Boys and Girls Club Director, Paul Chissus, Jr., otherwise known as Mr. C! Mr. C. has moved his family here from Fairbanks, Alaska. Since 1999, Mr. C. has worked as a 7th and 8th grade Vocational Arts Educator at Ryan Middle School in Fairbanks. He also enjoyed developing a very successful After School Program for the Middle School, promoting over 19 different programs. Much of the job required coordinating volunteers and hiring staff, as well as teaching some of his favorite hobbies, such as bike rebuilding, fly tying, fly fishing and casting. Prior to working in Education, Mr. C. was an owner of a General Contracting business, and has been working in construction for the past 17 years.

Mr. C. and his family arrived in Seldovia on October 8th along with his wife, Jenny, their 12 year old son, KC, 6 year old son, Devin, and 4 year old daughter, Marina. They are all excited about the move to Seldovia! They love their new home on the slough and are looking forward to moving their 32 foot Westsail to the Seldovia harbor in the near future. Paul and Jenny are especially excited about becoming a part of the community of Seldovia and enjoying the small town lifestyle this community offers.

Mr. C. has spent the first few weeks in town preparing the facility in the Market Annex. His background in construction has enabled him to complete this project without too much help and expense from outside of Seldovia. The facility has been repaired, wired, taped, mudded, textured and painted, along with the plumbing hooked up and mounting of shelving and cabinetry. The fantastic computer lab is up and running, with some generous help from local volunteers, and ready for the kids to enjoy! A monitor stove was donated on loan by an awesome community member and Mr. C. has it installed and running, so there is heat! The rest is coming together as well, organization of materials, assessing inventory and ordering supplies.

The Grand Opening at the Club facility on Saturday, November 16th:

Mission

The mission of the Boys and Girls Club is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. To achieve this mission the Boys and Girls Clubs are facility-based programs, using their buildings to establish relationships with kids and assist them in transitioning into adulthood successfully. The City and the Boys and Girls Club of Seldovia are joined in a partnership to fulfill both organizations needs and more importantly the needs of the citizens of the area by erecting a building that will be a center of the community.
