HISTORY OF SOME OF OUR FAMILY NAMES

crest

John Ashley is my 3rd Great Grandfather and the earliest relative on the Ashley side that I can find any documentation on. He is listed in the marriage of his son William Ashley to Bridget O'Dell who are my 2nd Great Grandparents. They ended up in Cheboygan, MI by the 1900 census. My Great Grandmother Helen had my Grandfather Kenneth with a Fred Moses who is not included on that census and have found no trace of him since. My 2nd Great Grandmother Bridget according to Michigan Death Records died in 1909. All three generations show up next in the 1920 census in Aberdeen, WA. My Grandfather is listed here as William "K" for Kenneth.

The Craig side of the family can be traced back to John Craig, my 8th great grandfather, who was a "dissenter from Scotland. In 1685 he came to America aboard the "Henry and Francis" with his wife Ursula and son Archibald. They arrived and settled in New Jersey. John built a home in Freehold which still stands today. It was involved in the Revolutionay war during the Battle of Monmouth.
