| (February 4th, 2026)Okay not really a vacation, but after Scot and Ann went to Stanford Monday and Tuesday for her annual checkup. Wednesday they called and said we need you to come back immediately as she has a heart infection! Because it's tax season, Kathy and I packed for 3 nights, picked up Ann and headed to Stanford. 15 miles into the trip, Ann let me know she forgot her phone! Back to the house we went and after retrieving it on our way again. She was told the heart team would be waiting for her, just check into Emergency and they will get her a room. Unfortunately it was one of the busiest days ever at the hospital and there were no rooms available. Plus the heart team had not followed the right steps and Ann was kind of lost in the system for a bit. Around 10:00 p.m., Ann got a bed in the ER so Kathy and I took off for the hotel. That night she finally moved from the ER to the 7th floor hallway outside of the nurses station. We showed up the next morning and there she was behind some partitions in the hallway. All that day and the next. Luckily Ashley surprised her and showed up and kept the mood light. Nurses tried, but basically forgot about her even though tests were being done on an erratic basis. The medication she needed was suspected in her heart stoppage 12 years ago so she was on another slower method of killing the infection until they were ready to try the better medication in a controlled enviroment. On the second day, Kathy asked how soon Ann would get a room. The nurse said well as soon as a room is available they have been filling them with new patients! Ann a heart and kidney transplant patient was in a hallway and people with sniffles were getting a room. Kathy exploded and let it be known that Stanford is not the hospital it used to be (amongst other things) and for whatever reason, she was in a room that night! Thankfully she did not have a reaction to the right medication and was able to go home on Saturday. Oh yeah, 3 miles away from the hospital, Ann proclaimed "I don't have my phone"!! Back to the hospital and up to the 7th floor I went to retrieve it under some bedding! Click on photo for more pictures! |
